Hi guys :) I’m sophia alexa, I’m an artist and songwriter born in california and raised in amsterdam, now living in london. i’ve had a love of songwriting since the day my obsession with Joni Mitchell started. growing up all I listened to was 70s music while writing songs at my kitchen table and I never thought I’d be releasing them. 

this is my first single ‘house of cards’ and i’m really excited to share it with you because it means a lot to me. I wrote it at a time where I felt quite vulnerable and I was loosing the support I needed around me.

This song reflects a time about a year ago when I was exploring the idea of relinquishing control, and embracing agency as a person. It became apparent that the more I tried to excessively control situations, my direction, my creativity, my productivity, etc., I was sure to feel more friction in those areas. Trying to control your creativity is a sure fire way to get blocked up. Overworking often makes you feel so burnt out that the quality of your work decreases, despite spending more time doing said work. All of these are issues of control, trying to demand that reality bends to your will. It is a rigid way to exist, especially as a creative person. There is far more power in your ability to go with the flow than to force yourself upstream. 

This song was my diary for about a month while I was exploring these feelings, and trying to simply let things in my life happen naturally. The more I loosened my grip, the better I felt. And paradoxically, the more confident I felt about the parts of my life I do have control over. I've carried that perspective with me and it's continued to improve my quality of life. 

I also designed the cover art, as I do for all of my releases.

'Homesick' was inspired by my first year off at college during which I was incredibly lonely. 

I felt quite isolated for a variety of reasons; too much weed smoking, my girlfriend at the time living 100 miles away, and my resistance to making new friends. 

I missed my home, my family, and my way of life. 

Luckily things are better now but I still reflect on those times quite often.

i was scrolling aimlessly on twitter one day when i came across a video that sparked my interest. it was a video of kaelin ellis and the kount jamming out to this new beat they created. yo, ten seconds in and the beat got me out of my seat. now i’m in the middle of my living room, smiling at my phone, hitting my best dance moves. i said to myself (and to my invisible audience), “i gotta add something to this!” so that’s exactly what i did. 

it was february and valentine’s day was right around the corner. i wanted to make a song for the guy i was crushing on before i decided to tell him directly. (i’m like, really shy sometimes.) anyway, i wrote the song with him in mind, but i also wrote it for anyone who wanted to send it to their soon-to-be valentine.

so now the song is done, the beat is done, and all that’s left is showing the world these rather impressive dance moves i have. =D i made a video including kaelin and kount and it BLEW UP! everyone loved it and wanted more!  it was the success of this song “crush” lead me to recording and releasing a full valentine’s day themed EP titled “LA Lovechild” on 2/13/21. i finished the entire project in 11 days. that EP has carried me through this entire year, and it all started with this song!

i hope the winner of this NFT finds a crush that crushes on them just the same. i hope this jam makes you groove! and if you ever need some dancing tips, let me know. i’m here all night. *insert pop-lock*

In 2017,  I was freshly out of being in a band and deciding where to start as a solo artist. I was working with a lot of producers to figure that out and had been making a lot of my favorite stuff with Melvv. One day while standing in the sunlight of his living room in Beverly Hills, he played me the warmest synth I'd ever heard in my entire life and ten minutes later Garden was pretty much done. 

A few months later it was time to decide which song to step out into the world with and everything in my heart told me Garden was that. Lyrically and energetically it just felt right. 

This is the first drop in my "relics" series, the collection of songs I put out over the first three years of my solo project.

in alignment with the theme of my music being affirming mantras, this track is all about attracting everything you need— in time and on time. but this time, it comes in rap form with some heavy bass on it. 

i wrote this song when i began to understand the power of attraction vs. eager pursuit. i truly believe that sometimes we can push what we want away by needing it to much. there’s something extremely powerful about surrender— it allows space and opportunity for what we really want + need to find us. 

these days it seems like mwwm (my wants want me). the life i used to chase now has it's running shoes on. 

now as far as the song, imma just say it— this will be one of the biggest hip hop records in web3 this year. that bounce. that message. i'm so excited to be bringing this to the blockchain for sure. 

i created this joint with my guys fat ron and thurz (with whom i'm forming a music group with). this is one of the many tracks we've been cooking up together. more heat from us coming soon. i hope y’all are ready. produced by 3rd party and rawbone. they did what needed to be done.

Let's Go ! So this is "Swingset" my second ever release. I made this when I first moved to LA and I was living in a loft in downtown and it was a cool place but living downtown was crazy, very hectic all the time going outside to get groceries could be taxing. I moved from Missouri, and the first month or so I was delivering for postmates on a bike and fucking exhausted and honestly making like 8 dollars an hour some days, but then I started rolling out new music and started writing for people and making money and my life got better. This song is kind of the start of me being able think realistically about making music my entire life, living the dream I have known I was supposed to live since I was 11 years old. When I put it out I was worried the break at :47 seconds was too ambitious and would make it too weird to get on playlists but I ran with it anyway and this is one of my favorite decisions I've made to this day. To ever ends up owning this, cheers, this song is really a piece of me and I'm happy you have it. ❤️

(I also used an alternative artwork that we had that, looking back, i kind of like more... haha so consider it a special edition!)
