One Beautiful Summer Day In July (2019) The two humans reunite not long after their first encounter, a few evenings prior. Overlooking the Happy Valley mountains in East LA, they begin to converse about life and love. The sun is shining, the breeze is breezing, and the birds are singing. Jahsh can’t help but fixate on two crows flying overhead; they seem to be in a love/hate relationship. Flying in loving unison one minute, and clashing into each other, conflicting in the next. Jahsh points this duo out to Aaron. “Hey man, don’t these two love birds look like they kinda hate each other?”. Aaron observes for a moment then agrees. Jahsh chuckles and remarks about how it reminds him of a past relationship he’s been in. After all, it’s a thin line between love & hate. The day goes on, and the two find themselves in a tree house, with an hourglass and an old Casiotone. A flute sound emerges alongside a classic Casio drum loop. A mystical little chord progression and melody pass through Aaron’s hands as if they had been hanging out waiting in the treehouse for some time. Lyric and melody spark in Jahsh’s head. “We met at the park, half way through the valley” Jahsh continues to sing until the birds have reappeared. It felt special to get to return them the favor of song, especially during their toxic love loop. They stopped and recorded a voice memo of the birds singing in response. After some moon cycles, reworks, help from friends, and artwork from a hero of theirs, “Through The Valley” was complete. You’ll still hear the original Casio keyboard, and the field recording of the birds on that day.
