in alignment with the theme of my music being affirming mantras, this track is all about attracting everything you need— in time and on time. but this time, it comes in rap form with some heavy bass on it. 

i wrote this song when i began to understand the power of attraction vs. eager pursuit. i truly believe that sometimes we can push what we want away by needing it to much. there’s something extremely powerful about surrender— it allows space and opportunity for what we really want + need to find us. 

these days it seems like mwwm (my wants want me). the life i used to chase now has it's running shoes on. 

now as far as the song, imma just say it— this will be one of the biggest hip hop records in web3 this year. that bounce. that message. i'm so excited to be bringing this to the blockchain for sure. 

i created this joint with my guys fat ron and thurz (with whom i'm forming a music group with). this is one of the many tracks we've been cooking up together. more heat from us coming soon. i hope y’all are ready. produced by 3rd party and rawbone. they did what needed to be done.

at the very core, i’m just a girl from the ghetto that decided to keep growing. i come from poverty and hand-me-downs. i witnessed gang violence from my bedroom window. i grew up back and forth between  inglewood and the jungles of LA (where they shot “training day”). but even with the hand i was dealt, somehow i always knew that there was more waiting for me outside of the bubble i was in. 

my mom owned a business growing up, and although we struggled, she was and continues to be my inspiration to aspire for more. so i went to college, graduated, moved around, and kept pushing towards my dream of being an artist that the world would soon resonate with. 

as i continue to push towards that dream, i realize that what matters more than success is progress. the choice to continue. the falling and restabilizing. the climb. that’s where excellence really lives. that’s the part of the story that really matters.

this is my first rap on the blockchain! my genesis rap record! so many more to come, but i believe this is a great introduction to my lyrical ability. produced by kaelin ellis with artwork by stonez the organic. i’m so grateful to have their hands on this piece.

i was scrolling aimlessly on twitter one day when i came across a video that sparked my interest. it was a video of kaelin ellis and the kount jamming out to this new beat they created. yo, ten seconds in and the beat got me out of my seat. now i’m in the middle of my living room, smiling at my phone, hitting my best dance moves. i said to myself (and to my invisible audience), “i gotta add something to this!” so that’s exactly what i did. 

it was february and valentine’s day was right around the corner. i wanted to make a song for the guy i was crushing on before i decided to tell him directly. (i’m like, really shy sometimes.) anyway, i wrote the song with him in mind, but i also wrote it for anyone who wanted to send it to their soon-to-be valentine.

so now the song is done, the beat is done, and all that’s left is showing the world these rather impressive dance moves i have. =D i made a video including kaelin and kount and it BLEW UP! everyone loved it and wanted more!  it was the success of this song “crush” lead me to recording and releasing a full valentine’s day themed EP titled “LA Lovechild” on 2/13/21. i finished the entire project in 11 days. that EP has carried me through this entire year, and it all started with this song!

over the years, i’ve realized how powerful words are— how they cause life to shift and set the tone of our expectations. i paid attention to how just by speaking of good, good would come. and that has caused me to be a lot more intentional with the words that i say. i wrote “and so it’s so” the first day i attended NFT NYC before i even left the house. before i even met my NFT tribe. i was nervous to be stepping into this new space. wasn’t really sure of what to expect, but something told me i could expect something wonderful. and that’s exactly what that day was. love in it’s purest form. abundant creativity. i was surrounded by black, brilliant, soon-to-be billionaires. but more than that, they felt like family. they felt like answered prayers for supportive community. so i figured, what better way to begin my NFT journey than with the song that set the tone for such an amazing beginning?

As the title clearly conveys, this is a song I created for the purpose of easing the mind, calming the soul, and basically removing as much stress as possible from the day to day madness many of us experience in life at times. The additional aspect of tuning the song to the frequency of 432Hz, which is said to resonate with this planet's own frequency, was also deliberately done to amplify the positive vibrations, especially if one wishes to meditate to this.

However, it's not so much new age as it was just taking a melodic idea that I created, on the spot, when I was feeling stressed and low and started to build a song to feel better and more relaxed, and then as it started to work, I just kept adding more elements to it that felt soothing. The drums were the foundation because I wanted something rhythmic but light, so there's emphasis on the brushes, with it's ASMR kind of light touches across the cymbals, the snare, and soft crashes. Then the bass line I created that was both the bottom but also had its own incognito solos that you'd hardly notice during the song. Then the warm pad to fill in the spaces of the song like harmonious atmosphere and the electric piano solo that came in for a moment then reverted back to chords layered above the pad and bass.

If by the end of the song you're feeling at peace and feel somewhat better than you did than before you pressed "play" then it did what it was supposed to  do. In the world we live in and the crazy things happening day to day, a song like this is needed–soothing, soulful sound therapy.

Soothe Our Souls (S.O.S.) 432Hz

At the opening of this song is the reference sample (the basis that the rest of the song is built on) of me playing on an old upright piano in the house of a young Parisian drummer who invited me over for an impromptu jam session with his bassist friend, back in 2013. It was an interesting year because I began it by taking a random trip to Europe, arriving in Berlin on January 20th) to spend approximately 3 months in the region (or at least that's how long my round-trip ticket from New York to Berlin was). The funny thing, though, was that I only had about 2 weeks worth of cash to survive on with no additional money that was coming to me, that I knew of. It was kinda crazy for me to book that trip, knowing that in advance, so it was basically a sort of leap of faith, if you will.

At that point, when we were just improvising that day, I had been in Paris longer than the initial 10 days I had planned to be there (at that point, I think I was living there about 3 or 4 months in, of the total 6 months I would be there that year). However, I wouldn't revisit that rough recording of that day until maybe a couple years later, and then still wouldn't finish it until just after the beginning of the new year of 2017, just before my milestone 40th birthday the following month, on February 22nd, which would be when I would release it among other songs I had been holding on to and hadn't finished. It was a speech by the legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff that prompted me not to hold on to too many songs I had, and just release them out into the world, because tomorrow wasn't promised, so might as well send it out to the world so that eventually I just "die empty", meaning leaving it all out on the field...not leaving with unfinished work, if you can help it.

And so here, on another year we enter, 2023, I felt it apropos to mint this song, "This New Day (Gratitude)", which by the title alone is sort of self-explanatory, but I'll take it a step further and say that with ANY new day, be it January 1st or any of the remaining 364 days to follow for 2023, let there always be gratitude and let there always be the same energy we give New Year's Day with the feeling of new beginnings and turning your life around and starting on a fresh, blank new page in your life book...let it be the same for any day, any moment you truly wish to make a change in your life, and then remember to express gratitude for every day you are fortunate enough to wake up and participate in, knowing that yesterday wasn't a guarantee you'd get, and that today is pretty much another reset to try something again or do something new because hopefully we'll get tomorrow, but since it's not guaranteed, might as well make the most of RIGHT NOW!

That's the whole point of this instrumental song that needs no words, but the feeling of the drive of it can be felt. And I'm going to set the reserve price for this song at 1 ETH because it's not only the 1st day of the 1st month of the year, but it's the number that is most important to me when I think about when I consider how to take on life...1 moment, 1 day at a time.

I guess this is another way to look at this being "1 of 1", huh? 😉

In response to the tragedies that have consumed 2020, I wrote  "Fly & Free" and invited my friend Eboni to be part of the track. The lyrics encourage confidence as we spoke life into ourselves and affirm our divine connection to God. I coined the term "Fly & Free" while free-styling at a rehearsal in 2018. In November 2019 I teamed with my friends Larce & Proda and pulled a sample from a video of that rehearsal and transformed it into a fire beat that eventually became Fly & Free.

I wrote this for anyone who has taken back their power. It is a song about the universe I wish to live in. A universe where the heart lives free and unburdened by the past, color, creed, orientation, or station. It was one of those songs that the moment I heard the track something opened in me. I had just gotten over a major depression that had me doubting everything about myself my life and my art this song was the turning point for my healing.
I hope that this song can help you envision yourself in front of your challenges in a world full of victory, and expectance. Welcome to my "Starship" where the love is and all are welcome.

Proceeds from this NFT will help me to fund my next project. As well as a women's alternative music festival I am developing call 
"The Bitches Brew". The collector of this NFT will have free admission for themselves and 3 friends to the series kick off and the festival for the life of the series.

The artwork pictured here was done in collaboration with the Haitian artist Fabiola Jean-Louis who has most recently premiered "Before Yesterday We Could fly"  An Afro futurist Period Room at The Met.
Fabiola  and I bonded as mothers rebuilding after heartbreak, our collective love of black fantasy, and our desire to see our people expand as immortal and spiritual creatures. 

I have also released a limited edition visual piece staring this art as well and will be releasing more pieces to fund my projects and my festival "THE BITCHES BREW" over the next few months.
