A few years later living in Upstate New York.... When I decided to compile all the lose tracks I made in Los Angeles (2012-2014) to create the 120 minute Cassette "Chill Gawd, Chill" ...  I had already known since the moment I made this in 2012, It was gonna be the intro to my next album (originally named - NINJA VANINISH) before changing the album title last minute....

and thus, The A-Side was born....

Backstory:

Created January of 2013, when Joe Kay & Angel (Kronika) came over to my San Pedro (Los Angeles) Apartment.  Joe was fascinated with how I chopped samples and mentioned how crazy it was that Mr. Carmack gave me nickname "ChopGawd" back in 2010 when we all used to vibe and hang and play each other unreleased tracks on turntable.fm

Joe said, he thoughtfully picked out sample he's been keeping tucked for years and he brought it to see how I chop / flip the sample in person...    He gave me the USB,  then they watched me flip and finish this track quickly in front of me....

For those who don't already know,  The reason I changed my production name from Dutchmassive (my emcee name) to Dutchyyy fka Dutchy was because Joe Kay used to call me Dutchy on Soulection Radio.

Backstory:

The very last beat created in FL Studio in May of 2012 in Los Angeles.

The homie Ahwlee was spending the weekend over at my apartment to celebrate my birthday by making beats.  In traditional producers hanging out fashion we both went in headphones in separate rooms and individually worked on music.

By the time I popped out of my headphones, all proud that my track had multiple change ups, basically hidden beats inside a single beat.   I played my track for Ahwlee then we went out to living room to hear what he made......

To my surprise,  during the time I spent working on a single track, he managed to produced an entire EP.

I lost my damn mind...  It was the quickest I've seen someone execute so many different ideas in such a short time frame....  I instantly started  begging him to teach me Ableton Live and I began watching him teach me his workflow from start to finish.

The next morning,  I asked if we could try collabing using just Ableton, and.....

Picking up from where the backstory of "The Tame" Left off...

After  suddenly losing my 2nd apartment in Los Angeles with very little notice, I ended up essentially homeless for a bit.  Thankfully I had plenty of friends who blessed me with hospitality and allowed me to couch surf a bit.  I'd like to take this moment to extend to love to AshTreJinkins, who let me crash a few days at his crib in Compton (where I created what would become the first track on "Traversal" titled "Sacred Goddess Cave" and Tre would Remix that track into the last track on "Traversal" titled "Sacred Moon Vagina"),  I'd Also like to extend love to Josh Jetson (Sunjet) for letting me crash at his crib in Long beach where he was neighbors with Zackey Force Funk, and Lastly I want to extend love to Matt E.J  for letting me spend the remainder of my 1st Los Angeles resident Arc at his parents crib in Palos Verdes before deciding to Traverse back to Tampa Bay.    A lot of cherished and traumatic memories packed into such a short time span haha...

While I was blessed to have couches, floors and beds to sleep on most of that time, there were situations where I had to leave one place before the next place was available, and if there is one place you don't want to be homeless for a few days or more,  it's a city where no gas stations, stores or restaurants allow access to the restroom.  Not fun...   Trying to tuck behind some foliage in a busy city to sleep or use the restroom is not the adventure I kept trying to optimistically rationalize the experience to be ...      during one of these Lay over periods, My homie Sleepyeyes said I could come crash at his apartment in Korea Town... I loved Jake, and already made a classic with the homie AshTreJinkins and Sleepyeyes there before, So I was excited to get to spend a few days there.

So on April 26th 2014...  After hopping buses and trains I finally arrived at Sleepyeyes  5th floor apartment in KTown with easy access to the rooftop just as the Sun was beginning to set.  Jake said he was tired but we ended up smoking anyway, which led to working on music...   The Original version "5th Floor, Rooftop" was created 1st, Sleepyeyes just helped with the drums and went to sleep, and I did everything else. Chops, more Drums, Bass, Synths etc....

The Original Version "5THFLOOR,ROOFTOP (f/ Sleepyeyes)" mentioned above can be heard on the A-side of the Unreleased demo version of "The Uproot" at the 12 mins and 44 second mark.  You can listen to that below:

After I finished that version, I wasn't tired and I was still hella inspired so I ended up starting a new Ableton Live Project where I sampled one of my favorite house songs and made the infamous track "Japan4" .....A Personal and fan favorite.

I ended up not going to sleep and decided to go walking around the neighborhood in Korea town, Listening to my ipod Nano shuffle and taking photos.  When I got back to the apartment, Sleepyeyes must have woken up and went back into the session I finished and made an alternate version using all the elements I added after he went to sleep and breathing new life into it, so it would feel more like a collab he contributed to instead of just contributing helping out with the drums.  I let him focus and climbed out the window and spent my last moments there chilling on the roof and drinking in the view of the city I had been living in since 2012 and thought really hard on whether I wanted to remain in Los Angeles and risk being a burden on my friends any longer (since finding a new place was not going so well this time around) or just keeping my stuff in storage with the intension of returning and just flying back to Tampa Bay for a bit (to also couch surf at the place I lived at before I originally moved to L.A. in early 2012)  Hugged my homie and said goodbye,  and waited outside for my friend Eroda to scoop me up and drive me all the way back to Palos Verdes to stay the remainder of time with my good friend Matt E.J (Organic Beat Sessions)

and thus "Rooftop, 5th Floor" was born...

BONUS CONTEXT:  all of these songs were originally meant for double disc version of "The Uproot" but after losing that hard drive, I moved Japan4, and the remix that Sleepyeyes put more work into "Rooftop, 5th Floor" over to Traversal, and kept the original unmastered version on The Uproot.

Backstory:

In mid Feb of 2014 I found out from the landlord of my 2nd apartment in Los Angeles that he wouldn't allow me to renew my lease which was ending that month.  I didn't really have a large enough notice to find a new place in time so my homie Jin who had been wanting to spend a weekend over offered to come help me pack and start putting stuff in storage.  After a long day of packing and back and forth trips to storage we wound down by watching some anime,  Sword Art Online to be exact...   I remember him purposely mispronouncing the main protagonist's name "Kirito" and kept calling him "Kitty Toe" which for some reason lightened up the stressful mood that filled the near empty apartment.  The intro / theme song for S.A.O. titled "Crossing Field" by LiSA was super dope and kept hyping us up as we binge watched episode after episode,  It was only a matter of time before one of us brought it up....  and Jin beat me to the punch....  "Dutch, I know you're gonna end up sampling this aren't you"        To be honest, I was barely watching the anime as my mind kept wandering trying to figure out where the hell I was gonna sleep or live or how I was gonna get to work in a few days so sampling or music just wasn't on my mind.

He then said that he always wanted to see how I make beats and flip samples in a way they are hardly recognizable anymore.  So I paused the show and said "I can flip the intro music right now or you can tell me song you've always wished someone would flip and I'll use that and show you right now"

He chose option 2....   Telling me the name of his favorite song [Redacted] by his favorite band [Redacted] which at the time I had never heard of......         and after hearing it I was so confused how such a dope song and band ever slipped past my radar.....

Bought the album to have the highest quality version and loaded it into Ableton live and slowly showed Jin my workflow when making beats.... 

The next day, we took more trips to storage, leaving only my laptop, speakers and midi keyboard and 2 chairs at the apartment...   When we got back, I loaded up the session I started the night before, setting the speakers up on the kitchen counter top,  and said "give me 1 hour to focus and black out on this track before I turn me key in" and quickly dumped all my emotion into the session,  adding bass, accents, some more drums and rushing through adding a intro and outro.....    I exported a demo version and immediately uploaded it to Soundcloud as the Final beat created in the actual final moments of living in that apartment in Los Angeles....       Uprooted AF...

Backstory:

Created in Fall of 2012 in Los Angeles. I was on the phone with my best friend and fellow / former "Equilibrium" member Majik Most and telling him how much I loved making music using Ableton Live compared to anything I ever used to produce prior.

At the time, He was still trying to record a new album so of course the second I bragged about being able to make beats effortlessly, his first instinct was to challenge that statement by telling me to make something for his album.  I told him, If you have a specific sample you want me to flip, send it to me now and I'll literally make you something while we're on the phone....   He sent one of his favorite samples he's been saving for years and I said,  "Are you sure you want me to flip this for you, it's hella kooky" and asked for something else.  He was adamant about me proving I could flip anything he sent quickly so I loaded it up and.....

We were on the phone for like 30 minutes when he said... "That's really dope, but it doesn't sound like I can Rhyme over it"  and I said.....    "yeaaaa buddy, I'm sorry but I love this and I'm keeping it to release on an instrumental album in the future, do you have any other samples you wanna send"    He laughed and called me a**hole and said he knew this was gonna happen...

A few months later, I surprised him by uploading the track to Soundcloud and named the track in dedication to him.  His publishing was ALL MOST productions, and he almost have another Dutchyyy beat to rap over ; )

I ended up making him something to use that same day, and as fate would have it,  he stopped recording music haha.

To this day, this remains one of my favorite beats I've made.  It's not super intricate, just super fun, good memories attached and captures the spirit of hip hop in a carefree way,  but Dutchyyyfied.

Backstory:

Created in 2016 while living at The Pod Inn in DTLA with Josh.

One day while the homie RND1 was over hanging out, Josh, Irv and myself were taking turns playing Mario Galaxy and No More Heroes 2 on the Nintendo Wii....   We decided we should get out of the Apartment / Motel and all agreed that instead of gaming in a dark cave, we should game at an actual arcade....   So we blasted some Brazilian Jazz while getting ready and dancing around and headed out.

When we returned to the crib,  Josh and I decided to work on track together while RND1 played Mario Galaxy.

"The Jetty" was the result of that session.  It was released via Rootnote Collective, and then again through a Collective Resonance compilation titled "I Can't See My House"

I honestly forgot it existed until Catalog Works asked me to be the host and provide the samples for Catalog Cook Off 008.... Backstory:

Created winter of 2012 in Los Angeles. My homie Simon, who's a pianist came over to my apartment to learn Ableton Live,  I asked him to bring over his keyboard / piano and told him I'd teach him if he just lets me record him playing improv into Ableton for 30 minutes.

So he did... and then I taught him all the basics from start to finish.  He wasn't the happiest about how the end result of the track no longer resembled anything he originally played but I told him that we would have finished too quickly if I just showed him how to loop an unaltered sample while producing.  I wanted to show him how to turn any sample into its own instrument.  I compromised by quickly executing a 2nd track where his original playing isn't heavily altered and he was happy enough.        I sat on the track for years and it wasn't until 2014 when he flew out to visit me the mountain in upstate  New York I was finally able to have a heart to heart and have him agree to this being released with his name attached.

Bonus Context:

If it wasn't common knowledge already,  while most of my music is rooted in hip hop production, the place I've always drawn inspiration from the most has been Video Game OST's.       So when creating "64" I was consciously attempting to capture the spirit of one of my favorite songs of all time - "Dire Dire Docks" from the Mario64 Soundtrack.

Backstory:

One for De La Soul.

Created 2013 in Los Angeles, Created the day before I flew out for a teaching contract at a hospital in Long Island, NY.  I wanted to cement the moment by flipping one of my favorite samples from the classic "Long Island Degrees" by De La Soul.
   At the time I was binge watching alternating between Smallville and Vampire Diaries on one laptop, while making music on another laptop when my homie Brian from Tampa called to ask me about something I posted on Tumblr,  When he asked what I was doing I told him I just finished packing and I was just killing time making beats and multitasking watching Vampire Diaries and Smallville (a yearly ritual)...   He laughed since he always made fun of me for watching campy CW shows and asked if I still have that "Hero Hair" which was a reference from Vampire Diaries he overused anytime I would try and get him to watch shows like Supernatural, Smallville, Vampire Diaries, Etc....       I tried to deflect from his ball busting by reminding him that it was my paid job as Master QC working for Warner Brothers to watch all these shows he makes fun of me for and swiftly called out that I wasn't at work and watching them on my day off at home.  I said "Touché" hung up, Quickly exported my flip to Soundcloud titled "Hero Hair" just so he would see it and get a quick laugh.

Backstory:

Created October 4th 2018 in Tampa Bay, FL  during my "Hug.Wrm" collective Era.  The night before flying out of state to work a month long hospital contract, I decided to go into our Hug.wrm collab dropbox and downloaded some chops from fellow producer "IndescribableINDY" and the .WAV into Ableton Live and set an HR timer since I still needed to pack for my flight.

I rushed around programming drums I intended to replace, chopped the chops up more, hooked up my Ableton Push to control Midi, and did a few quick 1st takes, Playing Keys, Synths and Bass and then decided I should record the rest of the session as a live bounce into the Tascam 4 track Cassette recorder I was borrowing.    The rest of this process was different from my usual methods due to the timer having less than 15 minutes left,   so I hooked up my APC 40 to live sequence (something I usually do in the daw with mouse and keyboard).... loaded up a fresh blank tape into the tascam, pressed record and gave myself one take to capture something since I would still need to recapture the Audio from the Tascam back into ableton live, so I could export and listen to on the plane...    Which is very noticable by how sloppy and dirty this came out as I blindly fumbled through trying to use my APC40 to sequence for the first time when I've only ever used it to DJ Live Sets at shows or on the radio prior.

The Updated version of the first version of "Ark's Trash" originally created & uploaded on July 27th 2020.

This track was for the July 2020 "The Kount" Challenge and also happened to be the very last track created at the "Maybury" house where I lived in May 2017 - August 2020.  Multiple unreleased albums were created in that house.  

"Maybury" + "NatureBoyKickSnare" + "PvP" + "I'll do it Tomorrow" and this was the house where "Evolving Portals" was born.  This was a Triumphant Sonic Send Off to properly end the "Maybury" arc / chapter before beginning the "Cursed 10x12" arc.

Nu_Genesis (V.2) has slight changes compared to (V.1) The first half of the track has a slightly higher pitch, and lots of subtle intricate accents in contrast to the repetitive nature of the demo version...

and thus, Arks Trash was born.

In February of 2021 while in the Ableton Live project file for the title track of "The Uproot" A very overwhelmed & Adhd Dutchyyy got distracted by news of a new "The Kount" sample challenge. This was back when he would post drums for people to get busy over and submit flips...     Well, I accidently loaded up Kount drums from a Previous challenge into that Uproot session and ended up recording 3 + hours of Evolving Portals,  Before Finally taking time to refine and sequence a consumer friendly version to submit for the challenge.

This track started in Los Angeles in early 2013 as the first collab I did with my ex gf.  We initially both added chops and change ups but never finished it.  Fast forward post break up,  I ended up revisiting the session after the homie Mecca 83 asked me if I had any unreleased tracks I wanted to submit to our upcoming collab compilation between Expansions Collective and Mellow Orange.

Upon revisiting the Ableton session,  I removed all the parts my ex added and titled the song based on the current popular internet meme floating around at the time...

I wanted to attempt an experiment, being the majority of the music i've documented on Catalog Works has been my back catalog music created long in the past even though i'm sitting on like a thousand newer, unfinished, unreleased tracks.  Full Transparency, the world has changed too drastically since the introduction of algorithms and it's just gotten worse and worse since 2016 with 2024 being dreadful.  Posting your work / promoting on social media not only feels pointless, but to a lot of creatives, myself included. Sharing that art into a void over and over actually does much more harm to the spirit than it's worth.  So as long as i'm still enjoying the process of creating,  I still retain my purpose.  This unfortunately comes at the cost of not wanting to ever to sit and refine music for release, since I feel my time is better spent, just creating something new I won't finish or release opposed to putting care and time into finalizing, only to promote and release that art in a void.

Backstory:

thxk_u  originally came over on 4/19/24 to participate with me in person for the first FABC (Flip A Beat Club) Phoenix Challenge.  Due to my physical health, me being able to participate in person at the venue isn't possible so thxnk_u being the kind and thoughtful soul he is, reached out the Nydia who is the captain the FABC Phoenix Chapter and arranged to get the Sample Crate sent to us, so we could participate remotely.  

The FABC event happened to fall on the same day as the Dibia$e sample challenge playback livestream on youtube.

So thxk_u came earlier in the day to watch the playback stream with me, while we waited to hear back from Nydia to get the FABC sample crate link (which didn't happen until it was too late)

Hours and Hours passed as Dibia$e played back over 200 submissions and we still couldn't reach Nydia so thxk_u asked if I would mind pivoting to showing him more of my workflow and sample chop process in ableton live since the first previous time he was over trying to learn, he had leave early before being able to try to the process himself.

So once again,  thxk_u created the drums, and I showed him all the boring prep work I have to do to set up before I even begin to chop a sample.  He did a quick practice take of chops using my method and asked if I wanted to add to it.  So I had him export the session and email it to me, so I would work on my desktop instead of his laptop.

Loaded up the session, while fighting back as hard as possible from being distracted by the tumor on my spine swelling up (I named it Quad, +1 if you get the reference) and in typical Dutch fashion, I kinda took over without even realizing it.  I shifted some drums around, removing some hi-hats, then I changed up the chops he just laid in the beginning of the beat and extended them a few bars before shifting gears quickly and creating the change up chops....      This whole process after the long resample prep-work part, i.e. creating the actual beat.... Drums, Chops, Sequence all happened in the course of like 20 minutes....A true microwave beat haha.

Unfortunately,  I pushed my body well beyond its limits that day and the night before so I literally could no longer sit up at my desk and asked thxk_u if he minded if we called it a night.

I did a quick, realtime live resample bounce of our quick session and exported it as the audio you hear now.

Backstory:

Created in spring of 2013 in my San Pedro apartment overlooking The Port of Los Angeles...

It was my day off and I was alone,  burning Nag Champa while cleaning and blasting "Let me ride" by Windy City with all the windows open and my front door open...

I was blessed in that apartment for the single reason it was the only apartment I ever lived in where it didn't matter what time of day or night it was,  I could blast and or work on music at max volume and have no issues......

So i'm just minding my own business, dusting and cleaning while dancing around my living room when I get tapped on my shoulder and commence to shriek like a stereotypical movie schoolgirl that just saw a bug.....         Definitely caught me off guard haha,  My neighbor, "Dimples" bursts into laughter making fun of my high pitched squeal then passes me the fresh spliff she just rolled....    My Neighbors Dimples & Granny were cool AF and loved me, but until then neither had been inside my place,  we always just chilled sitting in front of their apartment.....

She apologized for just walking in unannounced but said her and granny had been sitting on the porch for hours just soaking up all the music I was blasting and asked me the name of the song and artist I was playing before Windy City....    Since I played the entire EP front to back right before that I was able to tell her it was IMAN OMARI, she asked what the two songs were I kept repeating and i told her probably "Midnight" and "Energy" hahah,  She then saw all my equipment and asked if I was A DJ.....   I laughed and said, occasionally but beats and rhymes were more my forte, and she asked what kind of music and I just pulled up myself on google (back when google worked and my name still yielded over 2 million search results)  She was shocked and said "I could tell you were a soulful white boy, but I had no idea you had more soul than some of my own people" ... I laughed and said thanks for not making an Eminem or Vanilla Ice Reference and she said you're more like Mos Def or Common,  I didn't hesitate a moment before showing her I was once on the same Label as both artists she mentioned "Rawkus Records" and then she called granny in to show her........   granny and I were closer and she already knew I made music,  so she just said "I've been telling you for months that poor soulful white boy next door needs to stop letting that pretty asian girl back into his home and just focus on work and music"  I said, she isn't asian, she's navajo.....        She said,   "Honey I  don't care what the hoe is, or how magical that ***** is,  she's got dark energy and you don't"   then she walked back outside......

Dimples stayed and did the unexpected but also cliche and expected thing a music lover does when they find out you make music and close enough to see your equipment and say....

"I wanna see how you make music"

So I said, bet.....   How about you tell me your favorite sample and then she disappeared for like 15 minutes....     She came back in and handed me a CD and said, This is friends music, can you make something from my favorite song on here.....

Then watched me from start to finish create the song....  Granny walked in halfway through it so I decided to flip it again so she could see the process, hence the change up....

This was a dope day that brings me joy being able to revisit anytime I hear this track....  

and thus.... "Dimples" was born.

Another older track that should have been on "Chill Gawd, Chill" but It was hidden in an unnamed folder and forgot about it until the tape was already released.

People weren't happy when they got the Cassette Version of "Traversal" and this song was not on there.......       but to me, I was just correcting the timeline =)

Picking back up from where left off with creation of "YEBICHAI SWEAT" in November  of 2012,  We fast forward just a few months....   A Vicious cycle of showing back up at my apartment, crying asking for forgiveness and promising things will change and me being trapped in the "see the best in people, and forgiveness is much less heavy than holding resentment is" arc.....          Again, this theme would continue until april 2014.... but we live and learn haha.

I don't need to go into details via backstory,  the music pretty much speaks the context...

I ended up dropping this on Soundcloud on March 6th of 2013, but I know the track was created before that,  just can't remember when.....     either way.....      way too small of a peaceful arc between break up tracks....

Backstory:

Created in November of 2012 in my San Pedro apartment that overlooked the Port of Los Angeles.

My homie and fellow producer Eroda was over at the crib and wanted to help keep my mind and spirit occupied by challenging me to a beat battle....     only he didn't want us to flip the same sample,  just wanted us to both go into headphones and start and finish a beat from scratch and see who finishes first....

He was very conscious of how sad I was having to kick out my ex (again) which is why he came over to keep me company, what wasn't conscious of at the time was the little well intentioned distraction he attempted create turned into one of the most hyper focused, super intentionally not distracted from my emotions or the situation sessions I would have up until that point.   Long Story Short....  I used that time to express and cope and work through not being able to understand why the person I moved across the country for and treated better than anyone else in the world, kept doing super dark sh*t hahaha (this on and off saga would continue for 2 more years after this, which wasn't great for my soul or spirit but I made sure every bit of friendly fire I received during that time was channeled and time stamped into artistic expression)

A lil background/context... 

My ex was 100% Navajo.....  I think that's all the context I need to divulge to better understand the music attached.

The concept is in the title of the song......   I will let you dig for more context around what  the "YEBICHAI SWEAT" ritual is but in terms of the song.....   The first half of the song I envisioned my ex or myself even, pre-ritual energy......    The second half of the song is meant to be post Ritual Energy,  The healing ARC.......          

The song didn't exactly fix anything in her or my life IRL... but man, talk about the healing powers of music....  Getting Lost in the process of consciously executing my vision and working through those emotions in real time definitely felt cathartic and therapeutic at the time.....

I finished the track, smirked....  turned around and asked Eroda,  "you finished yet?"  he said "not even close, don't tell me you finished already?!"  I smirked and asked if he would like to wait until he's finished with his track before hearing mine.....     He said no,  lemme hear what you did.......          I told him that everything you hear outside of the drums will be from the sample I let ride in the intro and outro of the track.....        Pressed Play...    watched in real time as his jaw dropped....     The track ended and he immediately powered off his laptop hahaha.   I told him the concept and inspiration for the track and he said "I could tell, but the whole point of this was to get your mind off her" and laughed....      I told him, distractions are appreciated but if you sit me at my magic music musician while I'm going through unresolved feelings,  the first thing my instincts will shout out to me is......  Time to process and work through it....

and thus.... YEBICHAI SWEAT was born.

BONUS CONTEXT:

You see the date this song was created right?  This was well before I even began working on "The Uproot"....          When I was in Upstate NY working on The Uproot and Traversal and decided to release the 2 HR tape of loose tracks created during my 2012 - 2014 Los Angeles arc "Chill Gawd, Chill"...    I had a hard time not putting this song on "Chill Gawd, Chill" because it was created during that time period....   but the context of the song itself was how "The Uproot" album was even born, so I made an exception.....          This choice had a domino effect that would cause me to pull 4 songs meant for "The Uproot" and place them on "Chill Gawd, Chill" a Decision I immediately regretted that would cause more dominos to fall until the point I held off releasing "The Uproot" too long and eventually losing the Laptop that  had all the finalized and much better sounded versions of the songs that exist on the demo version.....

BACKSTORY:

Created January 2015 at Sam's Point Preserve in Upstate New York. Originally created for the House Shoes Flip Sessions #3 sample challenge.  It was the last night of the deadline and I was watching TV with my pops in the living room when a friend called to ask if I had submitted a flip yet.  I told him that I forgot all about it and it's probably too late to start anything and I was busy chilling with my pops.  He called B.S. and said he knew I could flip it before the deadline in a few hours, so I asked my pops if he minded if I hijacked the living room and HDMI connect my laptop to the TV and my interface to the stereo and asked if would want to see me work in real time from scratch under pressure at the deadline...  He reluctantly agreed,  So I quickly set it up.....  Was super Lazy with the drums, and focused on chopping the sample beyond recognition and turning it into an instrument....        My pops watched me until the deadline at midnight, when he said "have fun, good luck, i'm going to bed now, don't worry about turning the volume down"...   I ended up missing the midnight deadline which I purposely missed because I wanted to add another change up at the end..... Wouldn't have been a Dutchyyy beat without Traversing the emotions and switching from tense and turmoil to a sonic victory lap.  Added some slight drum accents.   Uploaded my flip late to soundcloud even though I really wanted to put more work in the drums and was disqualified for being late (again) haha....  

When I was approached to released "Traversal" on Cassette in 2016,  I knew the digital version would fit under 90 minutes and I didn't want to drop another 120 minute tape back to back,  So I cut certain songs from the digital version and added songs I originally wanted to put on the album and took advantage of being able to resequence the album from start to finish the way I originally envisioned it.  I did try to go back into this session and swap out the drums, but the hard drive that session existed on was stuck in a different state, so I just let the original ride out....

and thus,  Walk In Your Shoes was born.

Backstory:

Created October 16th, 2015 in Tampa Bay, FL.

The energy and intent that went into this track was multi-layered but wasn't over thought.  I Basically was coming to terms with unknown declining health issues that were happening while I was eating well and exercising, so there was sarcastic energy and intent from the start. 

It was also layered with sarcastic (poke the beehive) energy as it was created during a time in which the meta was flipping classic R&B tracks but either making future bass or predictably simple and dancy so I wanted to take something super soft and seductive and put a more rugged and unpredictable twist on it.

It was also layered with still slightly being in touch with ex at the time who seemed to be struggling and leaning into some destructive escapism. So I wanted to add a bit of meaningful sincerity with the rebellious sarcasm....

Nothing really Crazy as far as backstories goes...   This was fun to flip and not overthink.

and thus,  Please Take Care (of Yourself) was born.

My Sample Challenge Flip Submission for Catalog Cook Off 005 (Abjo) hosted in the Catalog Works Discord back in October of 2022.

To be fair. This was more inspired by a sample than my usual sample flips.  You only begin to hear the actual slightly manipulated Abjo start to be layered in around 4 minutes and 18 seconds.  This Challenge happened to occur at a time when my health was [it still is] extremely bad,  was difficult to sit up, felt like every fiber of my organic body was attacking itself, zero moments of comfort which makes being able to focus or be productive extremely challenging.  My physical body was nerfed but my brain/mind/imagination were working over time...     I remember being so stressed out not understanding what was happening to me and losing my mind over the fact I not only had stacked deadlines, but so much creative ambition but my body couldn't execute simple tasks no matter how much my spirit and mind wanted it...  I was humbled to learn "mind over body" is just a wishful catch phrase.  

While laying sideways on a yoga mat with Ableton Live open to tackle this Abjo Challenge, I kept visualizing in vivid detail thousands of nanobots traveling through my bloodstream attacking everything that was causing harm to my physical vessel.

I blacked out, got distracted and ended up only using the sample as referencing and just composing and playing various virtual instruments creating the soundtrack to what my imagination was wishing would take place.

No headphones or studio monitors were used, just my laptop speakers...  This doesn't exist in the arrangement view as everything was sequenced, layered and arranged in real time via resample in real time....    Unfortunately,  being on laptop speakers I couldn't tell I accidently turned off the Side Chain to the Bass, so the raw real time bounce is all that will ever exist.

I ended up creating a visual / video to better help convey the meaning behind the song.  My health has been bad for long time and as time passes it keeps getting worse, there are days where it's so unbearable I don't think I can push through it, but how many times can you publicly signal you aren't well and don't think you have the strength to push through before you're just constantly ruining others day with a situation they can't control or help.  So these days it's really bad.....    I just post "Please Send Nanobots" so at least there are breadcrumbs left behind.  A Digital footprint marking all the days I didn't want to endure pushing through, but kept going and kept spreading love and being as productive and consistent as possible.

and thus, Please Send Nanobots was born.

The 1st few months I was back in Tampa were super turbulent and it wasn't until I finally exploded on her via an email late august that things began to turn around.

After that email, my mother made her best effort to course correct, even if just for a short time.  So in November she metaphorically dragged me to come stay a few days so she could take me to the dentist and in return she would leave her room and go for walks outside in nature me (that prob sounds weird, but it was a huge step in compromise in making an effort to do something i've begged her to try to do for years) so I packed up my laptop, interface, headphones and little JBL bluetooth speaker and agreed to stay a few days.

The Dental appointment she took me to was a huge turning point in my life because it was the day we both found out how severe, complicated, risky and expensive the surgery would be.  She left in tears because she wanted to help but couldn't afford how expensive it was, which made me cry.  (This appointment was why I stopped writing and recording lyrics as "Dutchmassive" and pivoted to The daily private tascam freestyles)

After we returned from the trail, I escaped that tiny apartment immediately and brought my laptop and equipment down to a bench outside next to the pool and opened Ableton with intention to continue that conversation I had with her in nature about nature and how she needs to de and re-program her mind from everything she was taught by her parents and the world and view the beauty of this planet, untouched by human hands in the moments she's in despair about the broken man made systems that can make life very hard to bare a lot of people....So I continued the conversation but in the form of creative expression without speaking....

Backstory:

Created 2006 in Tampa Bay, FL using FL Studio....

When creating this track, I was imaging the Journey of priceless package on route from across the globe.  I Remember being super anxious about my package changing hands, going from post office, to truck, to airplane, to warehouse, back to a truck with lots of variables that come with human handling.   The First half of the beat I imagined tranquility....  Smooth Sailing...  All is well.....    In typical Dutch Fashion,  what's a true journey without the balance of turmoil hahah.   So the Second half of the track is anxiety personified.   

As I Document this track created in 2006 and released in 2010,  I'm stuck in the present. Feb 19th, 2024 anxiously awaiting for the delivery of everything I own and hold dear to my heart.  PC,  entire physical music collection (Vinyl, Cassettes, CD's), Books, Magazines, Paintings, Photos, Furniture....   Nearly everything I've ever collected since I was a teenager.   Things didn't go as planned at every stage of this cross country relocation, so I wasn't able to properly pack and secure my load on the trailer before having it picked up to travel across the United states...     I'm super grateful I was blessed to even be able to have this chance of relocation but until all my stuff arrives safely,  I've been super restless and fearful.   My Stuff will arrive tomorrow and I just wanted to document this track that somehow feels way to relevant nearly 2 decades later haha ...            I hope this pit in my stomach is all for nothing and i'll be able to follow this up with a new track, in a new location, during a new chapter of my life filled with unwavering gratitude.

Backstory:

This was created, mixed and mastered in Ableton Live within a 1 hour time limit beat battle verses my homie DJ (PeaceOutPremiere) using only a Single Studio Monitor (speaker) i.e. Mono =/

Created on February 26th 2016 while very briefly living at DJ's crib in Tampa, FL shortly after releasing the digital version of Traversal and a few months prior to moving back to Los Angeles while finalizing the Cassette Version of Traversal.

Everyone seemed to Love this track and begged me to put it on the cassette version of Traversal,  but I declined due to not being happy with the quick mix/master of track and not wanting to revisit the session after the fact to clean it up.

Still it remains a loose track created during the "Traversal" Arc of my Life,  So even though it wasn't a part of the digital or cassette version.  I still lump it with "Traversal" in my head.

Fun Fact: 

Since it was initially released (uploaded to soundcloud right after export) at least 20 people have messaged me over the years saying they didn't realize the beat has a hidden change up at the end and asked why I sequenced it in a way where it sounds like the track ends before slowly fading back into the final change up and that no DJ would ever have a chance to include the best part of the beat in their set because of this.

My response was and always is,  I don't make music for DJs, I make music for people like me who lost their minds hearing hidden Pete Rock Interludes after songs....    I.E.  intentionally unconventionally always trying to reward to the patient ear =)

Backstory:

Created late 2015 in Tampa, FL after multiple sour encounters with much younger, very entitled and ignorant (at the time) artists.  I've always done my best to inspire and mentor the next generation but won't hesitate to check them when they are acting foul.  Everyone enjoys praise and encouragement, but not everyone handles being told when you are disappointed in them.  Felt like a Generational thing at the time, because growing up all my best relationships were with people that just kept it 100%,  I can't imagine cutting off my homies who always looked out for me based on them disagreeing with me or calling me out when I needed it.  I don't know, Maybe the Golden Era of Boom Bap / Battle Rap made for thicker skin and not taking constructive critique personally or to heart. Either way, there was just too many back to back encounters that made me feel like having a rational conversation was falling on deaf ears, so I just expressed and emoted via song =)

Most of those younger cats have grown up, apologized and mended bridges thankfully.  For the ones who held onto resentment, it's all love on my end. <3

Back Story:

This session started on 1-6-2019 during my 1st 10 hour live stream on twitch, where my chat provided the sample for me to flip.

Probably one of my favorite beats of all time and I still haven't exported a final or normal version of it, because I made way too many change ups and have revisited and evolved/devolved the session countless times since then. (see album cover)

The last saved version in ableton was 8.6.21

but this specific version was created at the end of January 2022 as I revisited the project file one last time and Evolved a new Portal in real time on i.g. live.  

So this audio only exists because I was capturing the audio via Re-sample on the SP-404,  and I didn't even start recording from the beginning.   I do believe I have the full session in Video form tho.  If I can find it, It will to documented in the "Evolving Portals" collection below:

We briefly landed in the guest house of one of my pop friends.  By guest house, I mean a singular large room, w/ hallway for storage (where I slept and set up my equipment)..  This place was literally like 5 minutes away from Sam's Point, so we were still on the Mountain and the scenery was beautiful.   The guest house had a nice wooden front porch, surrounded by trees.  So instead of working on music in basically a closet, I would always wake up, go out on the porch, have some coffee, roll a spliff and set up my Laptop hooked to my little JBL bluetooth speaker and work on music first thing...

Winter on the mountain would usually begin in October and last through early May, so this particular morning, I woke up to a freshly fallen snow covered winter wonderland view.   I was working on tracks for my upcoming album "Traversal" (which I didn't know would be the album title until months later after moving back to Tampa, FL again) and instead of going into unfinished projects, I wanted to create something with new energy that matched the beautiful morning winter scenery...  

I loaded up drums that my friend and fellow beat scene legend "Howie Wonder" sent me to collab over, and dug through my vault looking for a specific sample I saved to flip when the right moment came....Which just happened to be shortly after sun rise on April 2rd, 2015 on the front porch of this guest house. =)

I began flipping the main beat first, watching as the sun melted away that freshy dusted winter wonderland until I got pulled away shortly after for the rest of day/night...  

The next afternoon I woke up, ready to continue where I left off the previous day, Walked outside and saw zero traces of snow.  Being me, I stubbornly decided I was going to hold off on working on the track until the winter wonderland vibe returned.  I opened up Ableton Live, loaded up another sample I've been hoarding and posted it to I.G. quizzing if anyone could guess the sample.

Guess what?

That was the final snow I would see,  Winter Wonderland never returned haha...  Shortly after, we moved from that guest house and into the basement of a new house (also a few minutes away)  but this house was amazing, and the owner was never home,  so it's like we had this amazing house to ourselves....  

and on July 7th, 2015, I would say goodbye to New York for a bit and head back once again to the place I kept trying to escape, Tampa Bay.

I began working on "Traversal" upon arrival in Tampa,  but guess what you will never find in Tampa Bay, Florida?  

A Winter Wonderland...

and I'm artistically stubborn...    No Snow,  No finishing the track..... So the first version of Traversal was released and this song was not included on it as intended.

In April 2016, I moved back to Los Angeles (No Snow) and began finalizing the Cassette version of "Traversal",  Still stubborn...   It was not included on the tape as intended...      

August 19th 2016. my mother passed away, the same day I was fired from netflix for posting a picture at my work desk on twitter,  a few days later....     I'm back in Tampa Bay once again...  tho with zero intentions of staying...  (hindsight is 20/20)  

It took me a while after my mother passed to be able to bring myself to work on music.  

According to my own lore, the first time I touched music again was with this quick impromptu tribute to my mom I made on December 8th, 2016 which I posted on soundcloud with no track title, or intentions of keeping public.

I opened one project shortly after arriving in Tampa after my mother passed...

A project I was too stubborn to work on unless the perfect conditions lined up... Something I learned the hard way is that tomorrow is never promised.  So I opened up the Howie Wonder Collab in tribute,  No snow in sight, and attached new energy to this track....     The first time opening up Ableton since my mother passed, and I created the intro......    I realized in that moment my energy was too chaotic and off balance and I wasn't ready to return to creating music just yet.      

I added the new intro, added the brief interlude and attached them to the original beat,  No Winter Wonderland in sight,  but in spite of all the loss, and traversing, I had hope and optimism.....

and on September 3rd, 2016, I uploaded the track to Soundcloud with the description:

Backstory:

Remember back when everyone thought the world was going to end on December 21st 2012?  I do haha.  If you're reading this in the distant future and have no idea what I'm talking about, search your history archives for the Mayan Calendar Apocalypse.

I woke up on December 22nd 2012, in my San Pedro Apartment, overlooking the Port of Los Angeles, and smiled.  Felt it was only right to celebrate by quickly cooking up in Ableton Live to document the historic moment.  

Super quick flip,  Immediately, uploaded to Soundcloud the moment I finished with the description reading "APOCALYPSE AVERTED IDDISH."

Backstory:

On January 26th 2023, while trying to test out if my new PC could handle playing music, while gaming using my virtual avatar a critical user error was made.

New PC, new methods.  For this test all I needed was a playlist of my own music in the windows default media player but I wasn't familiar with the one that came installed w/ my pc "Groove Music".  It wouldn't let me drag and drop music into playlists, songs had to be imported and by mistake I chose to import my entire F drive (which was the main External SSD that held all my Ableton Live Project Files, Drums, Samples, Album Masters, Unreleased.  Basically my master vault.

As soon as I clicked on that drive it began importing every single media file on that SSD (over 16k files to be exact) including drum one shots, everything....   Not ideal for what I was attempting to quickly test out,   which was just create a mini playlist of my curated music to stream to.  I wasn't trying to sort through 16k files so I just [shift] selected all and deleted everything that was just imported so I could just import a specific folder instead.  When I went to create a specific folder in my External SSD, I noticed all the audio files were gone.  I panicked, and quickly checked my trash and saw everything I deleted from the playlist in groove music was removed from my SSD and placed into the trash,  so I quickly restored the files but realized almost everything was still missing.  Then I saw the recycling bin had a storage limit, one that greatly exceeded and after research learned that the largest files that couldn't fit were permanently deleted. 

I'm now in full blown meltdown mode.  I consider myself somewhat computer savvy but hours and hours of research on how I could possibly recover my life's work were a bust.  Every page, video, forum all pointed to paid recovery software and I couldn't tell what was legit or not so I took to twitter and sent out an S.O.S. Flare...

The homie Alez reached out and offered to pay for the recovery software,  and I spent the next 12 hrs, watching this software slowly move its progress bar.   The problem was, there was no way to recover files lost from the External SSD back on to the same SSD drive, so I had to set the recovery path to D: drive which is my 10TB disc hard drive.   The SSD was only 1TB, but when the software finally finished it said it recovered 2.7 TB worth of data...   I still don't understand this.....

While I was able to recover a majority of the audio files,  most were recovered with different, incoherent file names.  So all of those Ableton Live Project Files had no way of finding where any of the samples or drums were located.  This absolutely decimated my spirit since there were like 7 project files I never even exported a rough version of and they were all the music I was most excited and proud of, now forever lost.

Within the same 24 hrs as this happened, on my 52nd hour of not sleeping, I got an email from Catalog asking If I wanted to be the next artist to submit samples for the upcoming Cook Off 008...         Crazy timing huh?        

I accepted, but explained the situation that just happened and said I would do my best.  I just lost access to all my Ableton Project Files, 2019-2022 so all the new stuff I would have loved to submit, so I ended up using my laptop and hooked up on old drive and dug into every project file I didn't recognize...    and began exporting chops, loops, drums of stuff I barely remembered making.

By the time I was finished I had a 5.26GB Folder with 110 files in it...     The Largest amount of samples submitted for a Cook Off Challenge.

My biggest pet peeve w/ sample challenges is when the artist submits like 3 files, and there is hardly any Harmonic or Melodic diversity to work with, so I made sure I provided enough variation in that folder for people to choose from to make submitting a flip as stress free as possible while in the most stressed state possible at that time haha.     

I'm still feeling the loss from that day,  It messed up a lot of planned things in motion that were near completion and I've barely made new music this year because of that.  I'm very grateful to Alez for reaching out and lending support, I'm very grateful to Catalog for being a Platform that values music and not only holds these creative fun challenges but also participates in nearly all of them. Lastly, I'm thankful to everyone who showed up for my challenge.  It was super inspiring hearing so many talented producers putting their own spin on my samples. To this date, Cook Off 008 was the largest turn out in terms of submissions. That definitely makes me smile but I would love to see that record get shattered by more people joining in on future cook offs =)

Backstory:

Shortly after transitioning from FL Studio to Ableton Live in 2012,  My dear friend Ivera ( fka Peanut Butter Cookiez ) that I've known since the early days of myspace came out to Los Angeles to visit.  She ended up coming to my apartment in San Pedro and brought a friend with her @lowleaf

My GF (ex) at the time was at work, so I was already locked in getting lost in Ableton when they showed up.  Low Leaf asked why I wasn't using the Arrangement view and I said "huh, what arrangement view" haha.  Then she showed me how to tab over to Ableton's other view.  I thanked her and proceeded to get busy in session view =)

I saved what I was working on and asked them to choose their favorite sample/song so I could flip it.  They agreed on a song, and I began doing my thing....

My ex knew Ivey was supposed to come through that day and also knew I had a song on "Blue Screen of Deaf" dedicated to her titled "PBC Activity" (one of the first beats I made w/o samples) so she was a bit worried even tho I tried to explain Ivey is like my sister and i've known her for years. She had to work until 5 so I didn't expect to see her during Ivey's visit since her lunch wasn't long enough to drive to our apartment and back to work so it made no logistical sense to ever drive home during lunch.  While working on my flip, we all heard the door open, but didn't see who came in since they went directly into the restroom.  We looked at each other confused since I already told Ivey (who wanted to meet my girl) that she wouldn't be here during the limited time she had to visit.  I was wondering if I left the door unlocked and maybe Ahwlee, or another friend or one of neighbors just walked in and needed to use the restroom.  After a few minutes passed, I just kept working on my flip since I set an hour time limit for myself to get it finished and exported. 15 minutes later,  my ex quietly walks into the living room unable to hide the shocked expression on her face.  She was already familiar with how objectively Beautiful Ivey was, but I don't think she expected to see two objectively beautiful women sitting behind my shoulders when she walked in and she kinda went stun locked as Ivey and Low Leaf tried to greet her.  I asked what she was doing at home and she came up with an excuse that didn't make sense before quickly having to say goodbye and speed back to work.

I was hyper focused on finishing my flip and adding synths to really pay any attention to what just happened but both Ivey and Low Leaf brought up how weird and uncomfortable that brief encounter was and mentioned it probably isn't a good sign that my girl didn't trust me and both felt like she was trying to pop in unannounced to catch me in act or something and wished me luck and said godspeed on the night ahead of me haha.   

I finalized the track and exported within the hour time limit I set so I was happy.

The most memorable moment from that day was a conversation w/ Low Leaf about our process of creating music.  She warned me not to let myself get lost in a trance while creating because you become vulnerable to being channeled by undesired forces...    that stuck with me......        Unfortunately, I was never able to follow that advice because my creative process is my form of meditation,  and I'm definitely in a trance during it.  though I don't feel I'm channeling anything or anyone other than my higher self, surfing the fringes of the flow state waves....  and I would totally lean into this trance years later as I entered the era of Daily Rambles, Long Story Short & Evolving Portals =)

I can't remember if that night ended up good or bad, I just know I was happy to see my friend Ivey and meet Angelica in person for the first time and cemented that memory in the form of a song.

And thus, "Simplemente" was born.

Back Story:

Created March - October 2015 at Sam's Point Nature Preserve, i.e. the highest point of the Shawangunk Ridge in Upstate NY.

On September 10th, 2014 the Homie Cazal Organism sent me some drums to get busy over and imo there is nothing like that signature Cazal Bounce when it comes to drums so I wasted zero time.  Immediately opened up Ableton Live and let my expression loose.  At the time,  I was having super in depth conversations with multiple people about how unfulfilling surface based interactions, convos and even art was for our spirits.  It felt like so many people were so closed off and guarded, playing it safe in so many aspects of life.      How boring.....

The track creation process wasn't like my usual tunnel vision process,  I was multitasking multiple songs at the time,  and building tracks over time.   Around April 2015, I ended up sending the 1st draft ableton session to Cazal so he could add some bass over my micro chops.  After I got the session back, I added keys, synths, more bass and got super weird with it.  The version you are hearing is the Digital Release Version, which varies slightly from the Cassette version of Traversal.  Different mix, master, some additions, subtractions were made and that quiet gap towards the end of the track was filled with what I intentionally made open space for.    

If you would like to compare the differences for yourself, you can listen to the full Cassette Version of Traversal in full the way it was intended to be sequenced and heard.  "Dive Off The Deep End" is on Side B, but I'll include links to the full tape for anyone who wishes to experience the full front to back journey.

Created fall 2009 in Tampa, Florida using FL STUDIO.

I guess I always made super long tracks looking back hahaha.  A least they had a million change ups 95% of the time.  If I were to have to point out my own weakest trait in terms of music production I guess it's always been basslines.   Maybe it's from always creating in cheap headphones for the 1st 20 years of making beats and not be able to ever play music loud enough to feel the bass where i was creating or maybe never taking the time to learn music theory was not the best move.  I feel like my ear excels in term of creating melodies and harmonies without training, but basslines I just never seemed prioritize.   Imperfection is spirit animal I guess =)

Not a lot of memories attached to certain older beats,  probably means I was just getting lost having fun creating in the moments I could find.

Backstory:

Created in my Los Angeles apartment in Fall of 2013. This track began the same hour Addison Chase (of Cosmic Compositions) reached out to me to be included in their next Avant Garde Series for Sun Ra.  After telling me my track "Astral Traveling" for **Cosmic Compositions Avant Garde Series Vol.1 [Pharoah Sanders]** was one of his personal favorite tracks as well as one the fan favorites, I was pretty inspired to jump into this flip without a moment's delay.

Both of these Artists we were paying tribute to were some of my biggest inspirations musically over the years.  Hearing their music always made me feel like my creative intuition to embrace the abstract and create contrasts between chaotic moments and peaceful/harmonious moments either  through sudden unpredictable shifts that would feel jarring to most people or through slow builds that tell a story that may or may not have a resolve, This was something I always got pushback on from friends but was something I myself was proud of.  Methods both Sun Ra & Pharoah Sanders both implemented often. So when the chance was presented to pay official tribute to & honor these legends, I made absolutely sure I came with my A game and made tracks at least I could be proud of.

"Spring Chops In The Fall '' was created in Ableton Live, but it was also the 1st song I used the Original SP404 compression and isolation on.  I really wanted to flex the art of micro-chopping and show off my ability to turn entire songs into a instrument, rather than cherry picking the obvious part(s) most people would usually gravitate towards. So I flipped my chosen track multiple different ways while still finding a way to sequence all the change ups in a way that told a cohesive sonic story.  Honor A Legend, Create A Journey. This remains one of my personal favorite tracks to date.

Backstory: 

This one is lengthy,  some music is born from just sitting and making music. I have countless tracks I couldn't attach a backstory worth writing about.  while some music only exists due to specific series of events and would not exist otherwise.

This is definitely one born from a complex backstory that feels like a movie script trying to write out.  This gets pretty wild, strap in... 

526 weeks ago to this date of upload (10/15/2023) on September 11th, 2013,  I was dropped off by homie Simon at Los Angeles Greyhound station around 2 AM, to catch my 4:30 AM Bus to Phoenix, AZ. Where I was headed to be the best man in my best and longest friend, Eric's Wedding.  This gets a bit crazy in a moment but need's a bit of context to set up the context.  We will return to the greyhound station momentarily. 

So, I'll do my best to condense this part.  I obviously knew about my best friend's wedding long in advance.  A few keynotes:  

1.)  Eric had been holding my entire cassette collection along with my physical album masters (A-DATS and DAT tapes) in his garage in phoenix since like 2010...  I was very hyped to be united with my collection which was thousands of cassettes to show off to all my homies in Los Angeles.  This would require a Car to drive them back which was the original plan. (spoiler alert: I did not end up being able to take my collection back to Los Angeles at that time, which honestly worked out for the best or they probably would have been lost 6 months later)  I did get a few hours to reunite w/ them and inspect their condition.  I know Arizona is hot AF, so I spent years afraid my collection would melt in that garage.  I took a few photos and posted them to instagram in real time.  One of those photos would later be collected by @cxy as a 1/1 on foundation:

2. Eric was my best friend since I first moved from NJ to Tampa when I was 5 years old,  He was deeply ingrained into life, until he moved to a different state.  So he let me know our friend, and my ex-girlfriend whom I dated from the late 90's - 2006 would be attending the wedding with the guy we broke up over.  That break up moment in time was solidified over a 14KT beat in 2006 which was released on "Crush Your System" in 2007. Under the context of this news at the time, I was not looking forward to the awkward reunion even though we always remained cool after. (Spoiler Alert: I ended up loving her boyfriend after getting to meet him and spend time w/ him) 

3.) I was in a relationship at the time, and Eric figured it wouldn't be awkward since I would be attending with my gf at the time who also owned the car we would be driving to and from the wedding to bring back my cassette collection.

4.) A few days prior to the wedding,  my ex and I had a very bad break up (context provided in the back story of:

I condensed it as much as possible, but all of those factors and events play a critical role in how the next part of this story plays out.  I'm very hard to upset,  I'm able to brush so much off in life and remain peaceful in my heart.  But if you combine (part 2) of my back story for "Lua Cheia", with the keynotes I just provided. A super, completely out of f***'s given Dutch as he is dropped off in the middle of the night to catch a bus alone to his best friend's wedding should make more sense.  

I had two large suitcases with me,  One carrying my clothes, and critical documents my ex left behind (birth certificate, proof of 100& Navajo records, Social Security Card) A lot of vital stuff you wouldn't want in the hands of strangers.  This was with me, because on the way back from phoenix, I had to stop in Las Vegas where her parents lived to pick up my friend Ivera who was moving in with me. So since i'm a nice guy, I planned on dropping all those important documents off with her mother who I spoke with beforehand about doing.  

The other suitcase had studio equipment in it,  Sp404, APC40, Laptop, etc...  

Again, all this is critical info leading up to understanding my state of mind during what's about to happen next.

So I walk into the Greyhound station, wearing a Hat with a hoodie over it, headphones in, wearing my backpack and dragging two heavy bags of luggage behind me.  I make a right aftering entering,  and some ragged middle aged white man, wearing a bandana looking like a cliche fresh out of prison tough guy is lying down on the floor next to the front window and immediately tries to get my attention.

I have no idea what he said, because I was blasting music in headphones, but I said admittedly in a rude tone "I can't hear you, I'm just here to catch a bus, not socialize, but have a good night"  then I scanned the room and looked for a place I could sit alone, with a full view of the station.   So I walked to the back right corner,  Sat down,  put my luggage in front of me and extended both my legs on top of my luggage.  There's still 2 hours before my bus arrives.  I'm sitting in this station listening to music,  thinking about the events of last two weeks, thinking how embarrassed I am, knowing I'm going to have to explain why I took a bus to the wedding without my GF, and thinking about the Cassettes I was so hyped to bring back home that I no longer was gonna be able to do...    I wasn't sad, I was super angry.  My spirit didn't feel defeated, It felt on fire ready to explode...     As I'm sitting and processing everything, I keep peeping the same ragged man who tried to get my attention talking to another guy who wasn't white, had a super tight slicked back ponytail and also looked like a cliche bad guy from a movie....    I know,  that sounds judgemental and in bad taste but bare with me.....     I watched them for like an hour bothering other people entering the station the same way they did me, but had no idea what they were saying..  I was blasting music...  Then the guy with the ponytail starts walking slowly in my direction super obvious...    I'm alone here,  I got this corner to myself..   He walks just slightly past me,   points to luggage and does a weird air traffic controller hand/arm gesture towards my luggage and the guy laying down...   I'm ignoring him, so he gets in my face trying to get my attention, so I pulled out one of my headphones and rudely said "yo! What do you want man?"  he said,   "My friend is trying to talk to you and ask you something"....   I responded "first of all, if your friend wanted to talk to me, why did you slowly waddle over here, and point at my luggage like a weirdo messenger, more importantly...  I don't care to hear what you, your friend, and anyone else has to say.  Pretend I'm not here, because I'm not even supposed to f***ing be here! I'm not having a good day, so no disrespect, but please leave me alone so I can process all the crazy sh*t happening in my life right now"   He said "Alright" then went strait, and made a left in the middle of the station, rather than going back the way he came..... I didn't see him again and stopped paying attention and figured they took the hint.  30 minutes passed and I had to pee really badly,  there was no way I was leaving my luggage unattended for a second,  So I dragged it behind into the bathroom....    The next thing I felt was getting punched in the back of neck (thankfully my hat and hoodie made it to where it kinda shifted the blow so it wasn't direct, but it was enough to send me flying forward, ripping my earbuds out and knocking my phone out of my hand and into the bathroom wall and the battery separated from it.

Probably the most important part of this story is the song I was listening to while I walking into the bathroom and when I got struck:

If you've never heard this song before,  this jawn is hard AF...   The type of music you put on before you are gonna fight....    I was already more mad than I'd been since my teenage years....     I flip around where I land fast first on the bathroom floor and immediately see these two cliche prison break extra looking a** suckers pointing a gun at me....

(Remember what I had in my luggage, The documents, Equipment....   I want you to think of every single event that leaded up to this moment to better understand what  happens next)

As soon as I saw those two guys, with zero pause or hesitation, I sprung from bathroom floor like a damn cheetah, arms behind me like i'm naruto running and slammed my chest into the barrel of the gun and went absolutely apesh*t yelling half crying and half laughing repeating do it b*tch!!!  and making fun of how they turned out to perfectly live up to my judgements of them looking like raggedy prison escapees..     I don't think they expected me to resist, let alone bark back and much louder....   Security was in that bathroom so quickly from how loud I was, and then I shifted my anger onto the security guards, still yelling and cursing (very out of character for me) about how insane it was that I watched these guys bothering everyone in that station for almost two hours and knew they were up to no good, how on earth did you let them stay in the station and stalk people....  Actual cops came, arrested the two guys,  My bus is now here, and the cops are talking about arresting me cus I just couldn't calm down...    They held up the Bus and finally let me go....    I now get on this bus at like 4:50 am, find a seat and the Bus driver says, we are gonna to make a one stop just before exiting California (towards the border) and said I advise everyone to get food and use the restroom when we stop, because after that he's not stopping, He also said in a very serious tone "No one for any circumstance get out of your set and approach the front of the bus"  Keep in mind....  I never got to use the restroom...   I was jumped almost immediately after entering the restroom and the cops almost made me miss the bus...  I've never ridden A Greyhound before and it was pitch black.  I was unaware there was a restroom on the bus...  So I'm holding my bladder, unable to process what just went down, watching my phone gps slowly approach the town he said were stopping in, and then watching us pass the exit and enter the desert where there is nowhere to stop or turn around for a very long time...    Everyone is sleeping on the bus... the lights are off, and I'm in the middle of the bus,  I try speaking up asking why we didn't stop but he didn't hear me...  So I got up out of my seat to go ask him,  I guess the lights are motion detection cus it got super bright and the bus driver literally yelled "WHAT DID I TELL YOU ALL NOT TO EVER DO!"  I whimpered,  I'm sorry but you said we were stopping and that once we passed that exit, there would be no more chances to stop the bus, I've had to use the restroom for hours really bad...   He said, the plans changed and to sit back down and hold it...   (Now, I wasn't aware there was a restroom on the bus until after Eric picked up, but that damn bus driver knew there was a restroom on the bus and didn't tell me)   This trauma, stacking on top trauma...     Eric takes me to a gas station, since the place we got dropped off at wasn't another station,  but like a weird desolate parking lot...     and I just relay the same info to him I just wrote about....  Not the greatest way to start what's supposed to be one of the happiest few days of his life huh?  We joked about that, as that's what we do... Laugh off and make light of the hardships we are handed...     It wasn't until I laid down alone to try a nap that I was able to process what happened and how stupid my reaction was and that I could have died.   Now on top of everything else I already was embarrassed to have to explain to the family and wedding party, now I had this unreal story added to the mix...  I think that was the 1st time I ever even entertained the thought of suicide if even only for a moment...  It was my ultimate low, the fire in spirit was used up...  Now I am sad beyond belief...       When I woke up,  Eric I joked about the time I was working at Subway, and the same thing happened,  where I was robbed at gunpoint,  they made Eric lay on the floor, and I refused to, made jokes about making them a sandwich and even scolded them for taking the quarters out of my tip jar...  It was nice being around my best friend again, and my mood shifted pretty quickly, because I wasn't trying to ruin the mood or memories he would have attached to these few days...      He reunited me with my collection briefly, and then we had to head out to drive to Tucson, where they had the National Observatory rented out for their wedding reception.  The entire wedding party met up at a hotel close to the location near Kitt Peak. We vibed, drank and all went to bed....       The next morning,  A lot of us met up in the gazebo, next to the pool, to have coffee and talk...  My Childhood Ex Athena and her boyfriend, Eric's Dad, his dad's friend, Our best friend Brian... and some people I didn't know....   I had my laptop w/ me and decided I needed to process some emotions and stamp the timeline the way I know how to do best....  I went into headphones and started making music haha.....    2 Hrs Later....     The first draft of "Greyhoundblap" was saved...   We drove up the mountain,  had the most magical experience at the observatory ever..   You could literally see the spirally Galaxy of Andromeda with Binoculars..    As I was looking at it,  A shooting star appeared...  The Milky way was so vivid it was like you could touch it....        When we got back to the hotel that night,  while everyone was swimming,  I continued working on the track,  Adding change up, adding keys,  vocal samples and finalizing what would be titled something that involves the name "Greyhound" in it haha.

Next Day was the Wedding.....      

Life is crazy B.    

 Thus, "The Hardest" was born.
